Poem Lives Off the Land

On the wrong word, a roadless plan, a jettisoned part of something else. The excess securities did not float. His arrival in the place was reflexive, interdependent, economical in a prehistoric way. He began by relearning pronouns and listening to the dissertations of a glance, an anecdote. The text, which was not one, did not lift free like a pull-tab. He un-asserted himself, became a slave, landless, literate.

Land Conservancy

Kevin Hutchings will be performing songs by the eighteenth-century visionary poet William Blake, as well as a number of original compositions and traditional favourites. Barry Booth (of the Prince George Cantata Singers) will sing a few duets, and Eric Tompkins of CNC—one of PG’s premiere musicians—has offered to accompany on guitar.

Admission is free (no cover charge). We will be passing the hat to seek donations for the Prince George office of The Land Conservancy; and Kevin will be donating his humble performer’s wage to the cause as well. (If you have any friends who enjoy folk music, please feel free to pass this email along to them.)

Where: Café Voltaire, Books and Company, 1685 3rd Avenue, Prince George

When: Friday, March 3, 2006; 8:00-9:30 PM.

Why: To have fun and raise funds for The Land Conservancy, a non-profit, charitable Land Trust working throughout British Columbia. TLC protects important habitat for plants, animals and natural communities as well as properties with historical, cultural, scientific, scenic or compatible recreational value.
